James Watt and Thomas Edison's breakthroughs

Yesterday, I understood how Edison made his huge leap forward in the design of his electric bulb : he was the first person to connect bulbs in parallel! From Vaclav Smil's book "Creating the Twentieth Century."

On Tuesday, I understood how James Watt made his huge leap forward in the design of the steam engine, upon Denis Papin and Newcomen's designs - he separated the steam condense from the main cylinder! From Jenny Uglow's "Lunar Men."

It's interesting that I am learning science from history books, when there is so little science in our school history books and so little history in our school science books.
