VSF Course on Indian Astronomy and Mathematics - May 2026

I will conduct the seventh version of the Indian Astronomy and Mathematics course for Varahamihira Science Forum, starting Sunday 10 May 2026.

Overview and Registration form below:

Have you heard of the Ujjain Meridian? It was used by Indians for two thousand years before Greenwich Meridian. So why does India and the world use Greenwich mean time?

We hear about Archimedes principle or Newton's laws. Why is nothing named after Aryabhata or Bhaskara or Madhava? Surely they had significant accomplishments for ISRO to name satellites in their honour?

How did they predict eclipses? What could they see without telescopes? What words did they use for addition or subtraction? What symbols? Why did Fields medalist Manjul Bhargava say that Brahmagupta is his favorite mathematician?

Artistic Delights - How did mathematicians incorporate Poetry, Wordplay, Bhakti, Skepticism, and Romance into their science? Did religion impede their science?

What did other civilizations like Sumeria, Egypt, China, Greeks, Mayans accomplish in those times?

Find out in this five-day online course, (classes will be in ZOOM), along with several other aspects of mathematics and astronomy in India from the Vedic age until about the sixteenth century.
